Eight WPSI Interns Complete Penn Medicine Academy

Oct 23, 2013 10 years ago

On October 11, eight West Philadelphia Skills Initiative (WPSI) interns completed their year-long internships in the Penn Medicine Health System. A partnership between Penn Medicine and UCD, the Penn Medicine Academy (PMA) Internship Program helps recent high school graduates transition to the working world. Students join the program during their senior year of high school, taking classes at CCP and working 8-10 hours per week at Penn Medicine. Following graduation, UCD provides wage subsidies that allow interns to work half-time while being considered full-time employees, which makes available tuition benefits that support their first year of college. Three outgoing PMA interns have obtained CNA certifications and one has already secured continuing employment at Penn. Congratulations to our 2013 interns: Shanice Jackson, Ashley Mason, Michelle Moore, Rachel Mondesir, Faty Ndiaye, Christian Pickens, Jasmine Starks, and Shakema Stewart-Hicks.

The incoming group for 2013-14 includes four interns: Tahir Bell, Alexis Jackson, Amir Nash, and Ayinde Young. They have already started college and will be starting their internships with Penn Medicine at the end of October.
