Last night was the kick-off for the Heart & Soul: University City Piano Project. Tons of people came out for the opening and plenty of commuters were pleasantly surprised by the art, wine, and snacks. I ran into old friends and made a new one while walking around and taking in the show.

For the opening, eight night pianos that had been decorated by different artists were on display at the Porch at 30th Street Station. Now you can find them at locations throughout University City. For a map of all eight pianos and artist bios check out http://universitycity.org/heart-soul.

Pianos

My personal favorites were Melissa Maddonni Haims knit and crochet covered piano, and Katie Holeman’s garden inspired piano. Part of what makes this exhibit s much fun is that anyone can pull up a bench and start playing. Of course, if I had started playing I might have brought an end to the event. However, if you can actually play the piano, or just enjoy making a fool of yourself, then make sure you find your way to one of these. It might just be the prettiest piano you ever play.
