Help Select Bike Share Locations in University City

Sep 29, 2014 9 years ago

Bike sharing is coming to Philadelphia. Beginning in the spring of 2015, Philadelphia will join cities such as DC, New York, Boston, and Chicago by offering bike sharing, which will allow users to check a bike from out from a station, take a quick trip, and return the bike to any other station in the system.

Because they are still in the planning stages, the Mayor’s Office of Transportation and Utilities is seeking the public’s help in picking 60 station locations before the program launches next spring. They are collecting input on potential station locations from community groups, businesses, residents and commuters by text message, online comment, email and phone.

Potential locations were identified based on factors including:

  • Population density
  • Employment, shopping, cultural, and recreational destinations
  • Bike lanes
  • Site visits
  • Meetings with Parks & Recreation, SEPTA, universities, property owners, and other partners

Included among the possible locations are about a dozen spots in University City. Help bring bike share to the district by learning more and voting on the potential spots at www.phila.gov/bikeshare. If you see the decals on the streets, you can also vote via text. The Mayor’s Office of Transportation is seeking input before October 20th.
