Dirt Factory use is growing!

Almost 30 households each week are dropping off their compostable food waste with us on Wednesdays (5-6pm) or Saturdays (10:30-11:30am). For a list of what we accept, click here and we hope to see you soon! Already composting with us? Let your friends and neighbors know and send them our way!

Our second Dirt Day is coming up on Saturday, October 5th from 10am to 2pm! We'll be distributing up to 10 gallons of organic compost created from your food scraps for free to any resident of University City. We will also be featuring a demonstration by Philadelphia Backyard Chickens on how to recycle your food waste by using it to feed chickens.

Are you composting in your backyard (front yard, side yard, etc.)? We want to know! UCD has partnered with the US Environmental Protection Agency on the University City Food Recycling Project, an effort to reduce the amount of food waste in University City going to landfills. If you're composting, let us know, and we'll send you a cool window decal (link to attached graphic) that you can use to let people know that you're doing your part.
