West Philadelphia Youth Beekeeping Project

Want to support the first sustainable bee-yard-to-farmstand youth program in Philadelphia? UC Green is currently raising money for an urban apiary-to-table youth beekeeping project, which will transform their community apiary, located in the Woodlands Cemetery, into a hub for the local beekeeping community.

As an educational tool, the youth beekeeping project will provide a unique opportunity to help students develop widely-applicable jobs skills and entrepreneurial savvy. Volunteer beekeeper Daniel Duffy will lead a structured curriculum of workdays that will empower high school students from under-served communities to manage part of the apiary and sell their honey and pollen at farmers markets.  As an environmental tool, the project will be chemical free and encourage genetic diversity, which is necessary to combat colony collapse.
