Inspired by Deputy Mayor Alan Greenberger's call for placemaking strategies for 34th and Market Street, the heart of University City's “Avenue of Technology” at one of the innovation study steering committee meetings, UCD asked Interface Studio to help us visualize a denser, mixed-use intersection with active ground floor retail. Interface Studio also proposed a unique wayfinding system for the Market-Frankford line station, which is inspired by the look of both transit maps and the computer chip on the Science Center logo.
UCD, in conjunction with the Science Center, the National Board of Medical Examiners, University Lutheran, and the International House, has hired Studio Bryan Hanes to begin a visioning process for the 37th Street pedestrian walkway, between Market Street and Chestnut Street.
Working closely with SEPTA, the Mayor's Office of Transportation and Utilities, and a group of neighbors, UCD is revisiting previous plans to improve the 40th Street Trolley Portal. Andropogon Associates is developing a new concept for the Portal, which will include a café, a small plaza, improved stormwater management, and horticulture.
