Director of Finance and Administration
Leadership position at UCD, a placemaking partnership of anchor institutions, businesses and community members that invests in world-class public spaces, addresses public maintenance and public safety issues, brings life to commercial corridors, promotes job growth and innovation, and connects low income residents to career opportunities.
Position reports to Executive Director.
Successful candidate will shape and implement financial management systems and administrative functions for expanding nonprofit organization.
Responsibilities
Financial Management
- Review and approve preparation and finalization of monthly and annual financial reporting materials and metrics;
- Oversee, in partnership with Executive Director, budgeting, financial management and financial forecasting;
- Create, implement and improve processes for managing cash flow and departmental financial reporting;
- Oversee changes to chart of account and processes for booking complex transactions;
- Establish and manage mechanisms for reporting internally and externally on multiple grant-funded projects; align accounting system with the requirements of complex, multi-year grant management;
- Work with departmental directors to ensure grant compliance on programmatic and financial requirements of various funding sources;
- Manage day-to-day work of staff finance/office manager on above functions.
Administrative Management
- Serve as a business partner to the Executive Director in the oversight of organizational administrative processes – including HR, payroll, benefit functions and facility management – with a focus on continuously developing and improving systems;
- Support work of UCD staff members and technical consultants to budget for, implement and maintain a long-term technology plan (including hardware, software, database systems, phone systems and field technology);
- Manage day-to-day work of bookkeeper/office manager and partner with technical staff on above functions.
Strategy and Planning
- Serve as member of organization’s management team;
- Assist with development of and financial planning for new initiatives that cut across UCD functions;
- Assist in cultivation of sources of earned income and establishment of sustainable funding plans for major projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or finance; advanced degree preferred;
- Minimum of five years experience in financial management capacity of a multi-million dollar organization or business unit;
- Professional experience in nonprofit sector strongly preferred, in addition to substantial professional orientation and personal commitment toward community work and civic entrepreneurship;
- Ability to thrive in fast paced, entrepreneurial, high growth environment;
- Self-starter, able to operate autonomously.

Summer Project Superviser, WPSI
Job Title: Summer Project Superviser
Department: West Philadelphia Skills Initiative
Level/salary range: $14.00 per hour

Program Overview:
University City District’s West Philadelphia Skills Initiative is a workforce development intermediary whose dual mission is to support the human capital needs of University City’s institutional employers and to connect West Philadelphians to career and advancement opportunities in their own community. An integral part of the work is our Summer Jobs Program which provides work experience, professional development training and college access and career development training to 50 West Philadelphia high school students.
Job Overview:
Supervise, plan, organize and/or coordinate the activities of youth service learning based projects. May conduct training and/or development programming for project participants.
Duties:
- Create and manage the daily curriculum/activities for the project team.
- Organize, lead, and promote interest in community engagement service learning project activities.
- Supervise and coordinate the project activities of 8-10 high school youth. May be required to supervise subordinate summer staff.
- Confer with management to discuss and resolve participant complaints. Evaluate the youth's work experience and performance.
- Manage and maintain time and attendance forms for program participants.
- Evaluate program curriculum daily to determine if it is producing the desired results.
- Enforce rules and regulations of the program to maintain discipline and ensure safety.
- Administer first aid according to prescribed procedures, and notify emergency medical personnel when necessary.
Skills/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field preferred.
- At least 2 years’ experience conducting youth development programming.
- Desired Skills: Project Management, Creative Decision Maker, Collaborative Management Style, Excellent Oral and Written Communications Skills; Self-Starter, Instructional Design experience, Youth Oriented Leadership.
