Shaping Public Spaces
UCD is dedicated to creating and sustaining the public spaces that build a stronger and more vibrant University City. Working in partnership with many others, we work to physically improve urban open spaces to provide for the safety, comfort, and enjoyment of pedestrians.
While our marquee public space project is The Porch at 30th Street Station, we are involved with a variety of projects of different scales throughout University City. Working in conjunction with the Mayor’s Office of Transportation and Utilities, UCD developed Philadelphia’s first Parklets and in Spring 2012, will unveil two new pedestrian plazas, on Woodland Avenue and Baltimore Avenue. In addition, UCD is working to advance improvements in SEPTA stops, the 37th Street Pedestrian Mall, and the 40th Street Trolley Portal.
