Grocery Outlet Opens 50th East Coast Store in University City

Grocery Outlet, owned and operated by sisters Jaelyn and Jaida Deas, opened at 43rd and Chestnut in May of 2024

On May 30th, 2024, University City gained a new, independently-owned grocery store with the opening of a Grocery Outlet Bargain Market. The store is owned and operated by Jaelyn and Jaida Deas, two sisters from California with extensive experience in grocery retail operations. Margaret Starke, UCD’s Senior Manager for Events and Community Partnerships, helped welcome the Deas sisters to the neighborhood during the grand opening of their new storefront at 43rd and Chestnut.

The store boasts fresh produce, meat, frozen, and deli with a large selection of natural, organic, specialty, and healthy products. Shoppers will find a fun, treasure hunt shopping experience in an easy-to-navigate, small-box neighborhood grocery format. Owners Jaelyn and Jaida are proud to be a small, locally-owned business with a mission to hire locally and give back to their local community.

The University City Grocery Outlet is proud to support several nonprofit organizations fighting food insecurity in their neighborhoods, including the People’s Community Fridge located on 52nd Street.
