Ensuring safe streets

University City District’s Safety Ambassadors serve as highly visible deterrents to crime and offer public services including walking escorts, car lock-out help, jump-starts, and more.

Uniformed in black and yellow, UCD’s Public Safety Ambassadors are unarmed officers equipped with two-way radios connected to a central dispatch system.

Their comprehensive training includes crime prevention, emergency first aid and CPR, customer service, and knowledge of University City and Philadelphia’s history and attractions.

Ambassadors provide a range of services including walking escorts, vehicle assistance (jump-starts and lock-outs), homeless outreach, and tracking public hazards like potholes, street signs, and blocked sewers. They patrol the streets from 8am to 3am, while individual service starts daily at 10 am. They keep the streets safe seven days a week, working in cooperation with the Philadelphia, Amtrak, SEPTA, Penn, Drexel Police departments, and security teams from Drexel University and St. Joseph’s University – University City Campus.
